Flower pounding

This quilt was made from pounding flowers. You lay a flower of your choice down on the material, lay something over it and then pound it with a hammer and the color from the flowers comes out onto the material. You never know what color you will get. Purple clematis turn a blackish/brown color, some lilacs turn to green, etc. Light colors don't have much pigment, so they make a water color effect. It's fun and gets rid of a lot of frustration. This woman in our guild had her grandchildren help her with the pounding and then made it into a quilt.
