Squirrels!!!

Don't let this furry little creature fool you. They can sure cause havoc!! I was in Florida and saw a squirrel come over our roof and 'disappear'. I knew that meant trouble. George arrived and found the hole that it went in. He hammered it closed but wasn't feeling good and didn't hammer it back too hard. The next day he discovered that the squirrel had ripped it back open and went in. This time George hammered it with lots of nails--only 2 squirrels were still inside our attic and running around furiously after they realized their escape route was closed. What to do?? Called the exterminator! He came with 2 traps. We have pull-down stairs to our attic in the garage. So he pulled down the stairs and set one trap at the top of the stairs and the other one on the garage floor. During the day, he said to leave the garage open and hopefully they would either get trapped or go outside. I never heard them again or saw them. I hope they have left. I'm back on Cape Cod as of Sun and he'll check the traps for a few days and see what he finds! Poor Suzanne she had squirrel trouble too, only it was a lot worse than mine. Go to www.suziesmusings.blogspot.com/ and read her story. She was very brave! She tells me she has cleaned every inch of the room and has new bed covers. Let's hope this is the end of our squirrel problems!!!

Still Here in Sunny Florida

Hi,
I'm still here while George is back home sanding. The poor guy, Wed he went from 78 degrees sitting out in his 'cement beach', as he likes to call our driveway, to 30 degrees and sanding!! He only got about 3 hours sleep when he was called out by the state to go sand for the night and part of the following day.
I'm here on squirrel patrol. George found that we had 2 squirrels living in our attic. A guy came out Thurs and bated 2 traps. He pulled down the stairs to the attic that are in our garage and placed one there. The other he put on the garage floor near the door. I'm to keep the door open as much as I can and keep the door to the house shut (and locked!!). I think they are gone. I haven't heard much movement. I did hear something around 10:00 this morning and when I went out to the garage (from the front door), there was nothing in the trap by the door. I looked up stairs and didn't hear or see anything. No way was I going up there! So, hopefully they are gone. I hope and pray that they are gone.

Dolcie Are You In There??

Dolcie loves to 'hide' in here. I think she thinks she can't be seen in there. Of course it's open on both sides, so we can see right in, but if she feels secure in there that's all that matters.

More quilts from our guild meeting!!

Here are 2 more quilts from our guild meeting. We have lots of talented people.
The first quilt is Sunny Saylor's. She's doing it completely by hand and it's taken her 2 years.
The other quilt is Connie Thombs' for her grandson's new home and she had it machine quilted.

Darwin Awards!

DARWIN Awards ... 2005. Yes, it's that magical time of the year again when
the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us. Here
then, are the glorious winners:

1. When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim
during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would-be robber James Elliot
did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and
tried the trigger again. This time it worked.....

And now, the honorable mentions:

2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat-cutting
machine and, after a little hopping around, submitted a claim to his
insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men
to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and lost a finger. The
chef's claim was approved.

3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during
a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken
the space. Understandably, he shot her.

4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver
found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from
Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the
driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free
ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the
staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.
The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.

5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head
wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the
injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he
could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter,
and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled
a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly
provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20
bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer...$15.
(If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?)

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that
he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some
booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head
at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on
the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of
Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed
her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able
to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the
police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to
the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there
for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's
the lady I stole the purse from."

9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger
King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, and demanded cash.
The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash
register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk
said they weren't available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away.

A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER
10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a
Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at
the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near
spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to
steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage
tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying
that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

In the interest of bettering humankind please share these with your friends
and family... unless of course one of these 10 individuals by chance is a
distant relative or long lost friend. In that case be glad they are distant
and hope they remain lost.

Amazing! Just when you thought people couldn't get any dumber!!!

More Show & Tell!

More quilts from our quilt guild show & tell. Aren't these nice and bright. Who would think that black, white, and pink would make a pretty quilt, but it does! It was made for a niece who has black furniture and lots of pink in her room. This will be quite an addition to that room! I called the woman who fell at our meeting (Barbara). She had to have 3 stitches in her nose and she has a lot of small cuts on her face and some bumps. They did an x-ray and a cat scan to be sure that her neck and other areas were ok. She says she's swollen and sore, but is doing ok. What a way to get introduced to our guild!! She's a good sport and is looking forward to coming to the meeting again next month. She said she'll just avoid the raised stage.

Quilt Guild

Our quilt guild had their first meeting of the new year. There were some beautiful quilts shown at show & tell. This one was done by Ceilia and it's called the tree of life. It's all appliqued--beautiful job Ceilia! We did have a little incident though when a woman tripped and went head first into a pile of chairs. The rescue had to be called. We think she needed stitches to her forehead. I'm going to call today to find out how she is doing.

Happy New Year!

This is Phoebe's new 'baby'! Isn't he cute!! He's a mini dachshund. He'd just arrived the night she was in the mall and she said she wasn't leaving until they let her take him home. She saved him from the mall. He's a very social little guy.
Everyone have a great new year.
