Getting a Bird's Eye View!

This was George a few weeks ago getting a bird's eye view of the world! He was taking down his old weather station from the barn and putting a new one up on the telephone pole. You'd never catch me going up in that thing!! My stomach rolls just looking at him up in the air.
If you click on any of the pictures in my blog, it will enlarge and you can get a closer look.

The End of July

Aren't these cute. Phoebe, who is in firebelles with me, rescued the mother and she had 5 kittens soon after. She calls them her monsters! She said they all crawled in there by themselves. It looks like she purposely placed them there. They are all given away except for the mother.
I can't believe that the end of July is here. Where is the summer going??

New Excitement!

We welcome Indigo Grace Eaton to this crazy clan of ours!! She was born at 4:06 p.m. July 28th. A Leo!! She's the third child of John and Robin Eaton. I haven't seen her picture yet, but I'm sure she's as blond and as beautiful as her siblings! I hope all are resting well and doing fine. The cross in the center of this quilt is as close as I can come to the color Indigo! I didn't make this, but thought it was so pretty.

'Cancer Winners'

Ms. Coursey-Prah, a radiologist from Piedmont Fayette Imaging Center, spent 5 months stitching a bold statement of hope for cancer survivors. She got hand tracings from survivors and used them to create a folk art quilt, 7 ft. wide and nearly 7 ft. tall. Dozens of wool hands, each containing first names, dates of diagnoses, age at diagnoses and birthplaces are on a background of 2-in. multicolored squares and one larger square. The squares are in the shape of a heart in the center. She got 72 hand drawings, including 10 men and 4 children with the youngest being 1 yr. old. The quilt was auctioned at a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and was won by Fayette Piedmont hospital where it now hangs under plexiglass at the Women's Imaging Center. The contributors, such as one mother and daughter, can go up to it and put their hands in their wool 'hands'. This must give hope to so many with cancer and what a nice legacy for those who have survived cancer.

Our Soldiers

These are two lap-size quilts that I made to be donated to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. Our quilting group donated many quilts to the wounded. My thoughts are with our soldiers today. One of Erin's friends was inducted into the army yesterday and it made us all stop and think of the sacrificies these men and women are doing for our country.
The muggies are sure with us today, but it's supposed to be warm and drier tomorrow.
I'm feeling frustrated with my blog because I set it up too quickly in the beginning and only a few people can comment on it--I should have clicked 'anyone to comment' and I didn't. I may start a whole new blog!! Have a good day!

Happy Times

This is a happy time with Judy, Mark, and Michael when they came to visit in '04. Yesterday I was thinking about Karen, our sister, a lot and sad to think of all the things she's missed since passing away from cancer in 1992. She is out of her suffering though.
The muggies are coming back after 2 glorious, dry days. Have a great Monday!

Sewing Time

This is a sewing machine cover that I made for Claudia. I sent it to her after she had an operation. The operation was over 8 weeks ago and she is still in some pain. My thoughts are with her today for a speedy recovery.
After arriving home from seeing B.J. Thomas at the fair last night, we had to evict someone from our park. I don't think we've ever had to do that before and it was very nerve wracking! It put quite a damper on our nice night. They have until noon today to leave. The police were involved and we don't like that either, but it had to be done for several reasons.
Today is a new day. The weather is gorgeous. I want to put this incident behind us and enjoy a glorious day. Maybe I'll take my sewing machine outside to sew and calm my nerves!

Dolcie and the thunderstorm!

I took a break and took a quilting class yesterday. I haven't done that in a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely needed the break. We had a bad thunderstorm here last night right over us. Three places nearby were hit, but we were fine, although Erin and I were a bit nervous as we sat in the livingroom at midnight watching the lightning all around. Docie, our cat, was nervous and, at one time, ran out of the room after one loud clap of thunder. It is now a beautiful day! Hope you have a great day today.

Moon Over the Mountain!

This is called 'Moon Over The Mountain" I love all the colors, especially the moons!
When I was a teenager, we would sometimes ride our bikes to the windmill just as a huge orange moon would be rising over the water. I know we don't have mountains here, but this does remind me of those lazy summer nights as the
moon was coming over the horizon! In many ways, it seems like a lifetime ago and in many ways, it seems like yesterday! Where did all those years go?

Dog Quilt

My 'Dog' quilt.
I love this pattern and have made it many ways. It's actually the same pattern as Ruth's quilt with different materials and theme. It shows how color can make things look different!

Quilts for Charity

Both quilts were given to a 'Children in Need' charity. The motorhome group that we belong to has a quilting club called the 'On Road Quilters'. At each rally, they collect quilts that we've made to be given to a charity in the state we are having our rally. Sometimes they are given to the state police to keep in their cars in case there is an emergency involving a child and they feel the child needs a warm cover over them. Sometimes they are given to the Ronald McDonald House in that state. It is usually up to the quilt shop that accepts these quilts to give to the charity of their choice.
I chose the colors because children love bright colors.

Isn't this pretty? I didn't make this quilt, but I think it's gorgeous!
Today, July 18th, is Carleen's 45th birthday!! Carleen, I remember when you were born and you were so small, we had to go and buy a doll's dress for you to wear. I carried you all over the park.

Pathways to Peace!

click on www.pathways-to-peace.com This was sent to me by Phoebe. When I'm stressed, and that's often lately, I go to this website and play the presentation and it's so soothing.

Ruth's Quilt--04

Ruth's Quilt! This was given to Ruth Burger-Cohen for her 60th birthday! Ruth and I met at bowling before Alison was born. Therefore, I've known Ruth over 27 years. We've had some good times together, many laughs, and she's a good listener. Happy Birthday Ruth and many, many more!!

Sunbonnet Sue

Sunbonnet Sue! This was comissioned for me to make for someone's granddaughter! I started it in Nov 04. All the Sue's were stitched by hand and it was fun to do some hand work again (even though my hands are sore sometimes from arthritis). I love all the colors! Liz Devlin did the machine stitching and did a wonderful job. She did continuous butterflies in the border and it adds so much to the look of the quilt. Thank you Liz!
