Alison's Quilt!

Alison is our middle daughter and went to college in Seattle, WA. This is a quilt that she received for being in Brittany's wedding, one of her roommates. The bride and her mother made each bridesmaid a quilt. It's hard to see, but there are pictures all over the quilt from their college days. It's very ingenious of the bride to be and a lot of work. Alison's going to kill me for putting this picture on the blog! Sorry Alison, but I think it's cute and a very clever idea! I'd like to see a picture of the quilt hanging up sometime to see all the pictures on it and the way it was constructed. Maybe I'll copy the idea sometime. My heart goes out to the people in Louisiana. Let's pray that they get back to normal as soon as possible. My friend, Margaret's daughter lives there and was here on Cape Cod visiting her mother this weekend. Of course, she's very worried. Her husband evacuated to Texas with their 2 dogs and she's joining him there today. I hope there is no damage to her house.

Pillows!

Ed went parasailing last summer off Bass River Beach, with Kenny as the captain. Suzanne and I were in the boat watching and taking pictures. Also, we went whale watching one day in Provincetown (the three of us together at the back of the boat). When I went to Chicago in the spring to the quilt expo, one of my classes was learning to put pictures on cloth. I then sewed them up and made 2 pillows for Ed and Suzanne. They decided to keep them in their trailer. Even though there isn't a lot of blue in their trailer, they go with the decor.

Mark, Michael, and Me-Summer of 04

We're having lunch at Tugboats, overlooking Hyannis harbor and Judy is taking our picture. Today would have been Karen's 60th birthday. It's hard to believe that she's been gone 13 yrs. She's been on my mind a lot this summer.
We are in for another beautiful day. When it's a warm and dry day, I just want to somehow hold on to it and get the most out of it. I've enjoyed our deck this summer on those days--reading, sewing or catnapping! That's why fall is so beautiful on the Cape--warm dry days and cool nights.

Ed and Suzanne's new 'home'!

Ed and Suzanne's new home in Bass River Trailer Park! They had a new trailer delivered on Fri. Aug. 19, 2005. It's very pretty and they are delighted. Suzanne is peeking out to make sure no one messes with their trailer! haha! I think they are going to enjoy it for many years. Someone asked JoAnna (our daughter, who helps us in the park in the summer) to take away a picnic table, benches, and two chairs that were still in very good shape. Ed and Suzanne are happy to have them. With new cushions, they'll be good for many years. So, for this year, they are quite settled.

Ed and Alex

Ed reconnected with his friend Alex from his school years and living in Dennisport. They hadn't seen each other in many, many years. They've had a great time reminiscing. Ed, Suzanne, and I went to his house for breakfast this morning and these pictures were taken on Alex's deck overlooking Bass River. He has a marvelous view of Bass River and also of Ed Crowell's house from his deck.

Birthday Flowers

These are the flowers I got for my birthday. They are so pretty. Unfortunately, they aren't going to last long. Why doesn't someone invent a cut flower that will last longer?

Suzanne's birthday jewelry

Suzanne got a bracelet and necklace for her birthday. My birthday is earlier in the month, but we had a small celebration on Monday for both of our birthdays with a cake. I got a couple of books, one being a quilt book, and I got flowers.

Is Dolcie Hiding?

This is a quilt I'm finishing for the quilt show and it still has pins in it along the edge. Dolcie is outside most of the day in the summer and I thought I'd get back to finishing the edge before she came in for the night. Boy, was I wrong. She thinks this is her hiding space! I didn't have the heart to move her bec�ause she's so cute and she has a lot of balance problems.

Sand Hill Cranes in Florida!

These are Sand Hill Cranes at our neighbors house in Florida. They are sort of hard to see in this picture, but if you click on it it will enlarge. As you can see, they got a lot of damage from the hurricanes. Now I'm concerned about the possible hurrican Irene. I hope it goes away from Florida and doesn't do any damage. There was enough last year with all 4 hurricanes! It's going to be very hot and sticky here today!

Hydrangeas in our front yard!

Bob, these Hydrangeas are for you! Speedy recovery! You can see them in person in Sept., hopefully. You look good in the pictures--not in too much pain. It looks like a gorgeous day today, warm but not too muggy. The weekend is going to be very hot and muggy!

The Red Dress

This was a red dress that was shown at a fashion show that I went to in Chicago in April. It was mostly a quilting show, but they have one show that is all clothes that people have made. I thought this dress was so pretty. I like this color red and all the beading makes it sparkle. The black and white diamond piece is a coat! A very talented person made all this!

Angel Sewing Machine Cover!

This is another sewing machine cover that I did for my little sewing machine. The flash reflected on the gold wings. It's an angel blowing her horn. I need to make one for Florida too. I should go into the business of making them. They are quite easy and fast to make. This machine is very light and I take it to class when I'm having a workshop. It's a great little machine. It does almost everything my big heavy one does.
Our thoughts are still with Bob as he, hopefully, recovers at home.

Speedy Recovery to Bob!

These pictures are from Maine. I get an email letter every week from a quilter in Maine. These seem so pretty and serene to me as I wish Bob a speedy recovery after his neck surgery. Last night Susan called and said that he was doing quite well and hoped to come home today. So, Bob, keep up the good work and you are in all our thoughts and prayers today.

New Quilt

This is a tease! These are 2 sections of a quilt that is going to be entered in our quilt show on Oct. 1. To see the whole thing, you have to go to the show or wait until after the show when I'll post a picture of it. It's artistic license of our family! One is me, sewing away with a cat at my feet (of course). The other is George in his boat 'JAKE' trying to catch some fish. There are other parts that represent the family too. Also, some that don't have anything to do with the family, just fun to make. Have a nice Mon! It looks like a beautiful day here.

Beautiful Flowers of Leu Gardens

This was taken at Leu Gardens in Orlando. Claudia took me there a few years ago and then I took Heather when she visited me for 3 days in January. The Leu family donated it to the city. So, they maintain it in it's original condition. You can also tour the house of the Leu family that is at the center of the gardens.

Stay Cool!

This is a picture of a wall quilt from the Orlando Quilt show I went to in Jan. My friend, Catherine, has done a wall quilt that is quite similar to this one. I just love this scene and it makes me feel cool on a hot day. I don't know if I could ever do one like this or not. Maybe someday I'll try! It reminds of Currier and Ives! It's titled 'Longing for the Past' and I find myself doing that more and more lately. I miss so many people from the past!

Pretty Horses!

I guess I'm in a horse mood today. These two horses remind me of the horses we had when I was a teenager. The one I rode the most was a palomino (gold color) named Brandy and then the other one was a brown horse with a white face and her name was Babe. They were a lot of fun to ride. I even entered Brandy into a few horse shows and we won some ribbons. They were a lot of work but were a lot of fun too. One day while Grandma and I were out of town, they got loose from their outside pen and ran all around the town. After a few attempts, a policeman finally caught Brandy and lead him back to the stable with Babe close behind. She wouldn't go near a stranger. It must have been quite a sight. Of course, everyone in town knew about it by the time we returned in the afternoon.

A New Day!

I think these colors are so vivid and pretty. I'd like to make a quilt with these colors. It would be a happy quilt to work on. I'm getting nothing done in that department this summer. The days are going by so quickly and I don't seem to get to my sewing machine. I'm going to a quilt show today in Harwich and maybe that will inspire me to get going on projects. It's my birthday today, so I don't feel much like working today. It's also the Coast Guard's birthday today too, known as Coast Guard Day!! Happy Birthday Coast Guard!

George's Ship

In Aug of '04 we went to the reunion of the Mackinaw. It's the ship George was on in the Coast Guard when he was stationed in Cheboygan, Michigan. It's an icebreaker. We decided to go, even though it was being held in the summer and that's our busy time, because the ship would soon be decomissioned. We had a great time. We got to take a cruise on the ship for an afternoon. We met a lot of nice people and the weather was beautiful.

Teddy and Harly

The white cat is Harly and it's taken from the website-catoftheday. He's an Exotic short hair flame point. I've never heard of that breed. He's so different looking. I thought he was cute and the total opposite of Teddy. Teddy was my mother-in-law, Shirley's, cat and now lives with Craig and Val in Maryland. He was an outside cat and now never goes out. What a life-style change for him. In Oct, Shirley will have been gone 4 years and I still miss her. We had many good times together.

What a Quilter!!

I got this from our nephew Adam in Atlanta. This is Gertrude Coleman, 80, who calls herself a cloth-aholic and has made over 2,000 quilts and donated them to the Atlanta Rescue Mission during the last 7 yrs. People donate cloth, clothing and many other things to her for the mission. She says the quilts aren't fancy but they are useful. She rolls them up and stuffs each with socks, religious material, a sample of candy and possibly a homemade scarf. The mission director says these quilts are bedding for about 140 men each night plus many that have been given away. This is an amazing woman!
